PQC Lab
Research
Welcome to the PQC Lab! We are located at Manipal Institute of Regenerative Medicine (MIRM) at the sprawling MAHE-Bengaluru campus in North Bengaluru. We are interested in understanding the underlying mechanisms that help a cell to decide about protein triage and how this process is compromised during stress, aging, and neurodegeneration. A concurrent phenomenon during stress, aging, and neurodegeneration is the occurrence of protein aggregates. These protein aggregates tend to sequester other proteins and RNAs, causing a disruption in cellular homeostasis. We focus on understanding how cell counteracts protein aggregates via protein folding and degradation machineries, and what happens during aging and neurodegeneration that the protein aggregates become persistent. We have broad interests in the field of stress granules, protein aggregation, aging, and neurodegeneration. We are trying to understand the underlying mechanisms of protein quality control and its implications in neurodegenerative diseases and aging.
